Though first and foremost we are an ice cream shop, every December we bring out our two cakes for the season. The first is Thelma's Bourbon Cake, named after my grandmother. She baked this cake every year for us during the holidays, making Bourbon Cake synonymous with Christmas in the Brittan household. We sell the large Bourbon Cakes for $25 at the shop, and they come dusted with confectioners sugar in a lovely brown cake box. The second cake is a Triple Ginger Cake, which is made with fresh, candied, and powdered ginger. I have never been a huge cake person (besides Birthday Cake, of course), but the first time I tried this cake I finished gobbling it up with abandon. There is something sneakily addictive of the mixture of maple, molasses, and ginger in this delicious cake. Since the holidays are usually associated with various spiced cakes, this one is perfect for the holiday season. I suggest serving it for brunch, as a hostess gift, or enjoying after dinner with a dollop of ice cream. The Triple Ginger Cakes are $11.65 each. We serve both cakes in the individual form at the shop, so you can always stop by and try them for yourself before ordering a whole one.
